OakForest - 2.5 to 4 year olds
The Big Classroom
OakForest is a mixed-age preschool program serving 20 children ages 2.5 to 4 years old. Daily we have 16 - 18 children and 4 teachers in 2 classrooms. We have Morning Meetings and gatherings with everybody and eat all of our meals and snacks together. Small group investigations, neighborhood walks and uninterrupted play are important parts of our day.
Our Values
Communication is both receptive and expressive. It helps us build relationships by allowing us to share our experiences, needs and helps us connect with each other.
Respect: Both children and adults need to feel active and important - to be rewarded by their own efforts, their own intelligence, their own activity, and energy.
Patience: We as adults love to step in and help children. But by interjecting, we are robbing them of the opportunity to problem solve and figure it out on their own.
Independence: We view children as capable and independent learners who are innately curious about the world around them. We seek to provide an environment that promotes their creativity, independence and social interactions. We believe children learn and develop at their own pace.
Nature: Children are curious about the world around them. While they are growing and learning, experiencing nature with all of their senses is a critical part.
